How Do Essential Oils Work?
Essential oils can support your body in three main ways: by smelling them, applying them to your skin, or—if safe—adding them to food or drinks.
1. Aromatically (Smelling them)
Breathing in essential oils can affect your mood and emotions. Diffusing a scent or simply inhaling it can calm, energize, or even bring back memories.
2. Topically (On your skin)
Some oils can be absorbed through the skin. Since they’re strong, they’re usually mixed with a carrier oil (like coconut or almond oil). Always do a patch test first and avoid eyes and sensitive areas.
3. Internally (Eating or drinking them)
Only certain oils are safe to eat—check the label first! A drop of lemon, peppermint, or oregano oil can add flavor to food, but a little goes a long way. Always use glass or stainless steel containers with oils, not plastic.
Essential oils are powerful—use them carefully and always read the instructions.
